And yet the way visitors actually move around the mountains hasn't meaningfully changed in thirty years.
Onyx is our answer. A single, uncompromising private transportation experience for the people who come here, live here, and want their time in the Catskills to feel effortless from the moment they arrive.
The Need
The gap between the guest and the getaway.
Ask anyone who's spent a weekend up here recently. The problems are the same. Uber and Lyft are unreliable past Kingston — twenty-minute waits become forty, then a driver cancels, then nothing. Local taxi companies are rare, unpredictable, and rarely run on weekends. Rental cars mean a designated driver, which means one person doesn't get to enjoy the evening. And for the biggest moments — a wedding, a milestone dinner, a birthday ski weekend — there is no one you can call who treats the transportation as part of the hospitality.
Meanwhile, the region has changed. Airbnbs house entire wedding parties. Restaurants like Phoenicia Diner, Peekamoose, and Fable draw diners from three counties. Hunter and Windham fill their lots on Saturdays by 9am. Weekenders spend thousands on the house, the restaurant, the ski passes — and then bookend it all with a stressful drive.
There is a real, growing gap between how much the Catskills has grown up as a destination and how people actually get around it. We think that gap is worth closing.
The Company
A hospitality company that happens to drive.
Onyx is being built as a hospitality company first, and a transportation company second. Our fleet is a single, deliberate choice — the black Tesla Model X — because it's the quietest, cleanest, most comfortable way to move up to six people through mountain roads, and because standardizing the experience is the only way to guarantee it.
Our drivers are chosen for warmth as much as skill. They know the roads, the restaurants, and the difference between a quiet ride and a good conversation. They know when Hunter's lots fill up, which brewery is worth the extra ten minutes, and where you'll actually want to eat when the reservation you wanted is booked.
We're based in Hunter, at the base of Hunter Mountain, and we operate across the greater Catskills — Hunter, Windham, Woodstock, Phoenicia, Kingston, and the villages in between. Airport transfers to LGA, JFK, EWR, HPN, and Albany. One point of contact, from the first message to the final drop-off.

We're starting with weekends. We're starting with weddings and ski days and dinners at Phoenicia. And we're starting now, because the demand is already here and the region deserves better than what exists.

What vehicles do you operate?
Black Tesla Model X exclusively — seating up to 5 passengers comfortably. Larger groups are accommodated with additional Model X vehicles from our fleet.
How does pricing work?
